Aunivers
Ed-tech platform · 2021 — now
Med læreren. For eleven.
I lead the team that builds and runs Aunivers. Hundreds of thousands of students use it every month, from first grade to adult education, so it has to work on a Monday morning.
I lead teams and write code for the web. I care about the whole stack, from the database and the cache in front of it to the last millisecond before the page shows up.
After more than twenty years, I still think it is a little crazy, and wonderful, that the web runs everywhere. Lately I have been exploring what WebAssembly can do in the browser. That is why the map at the top of this page is computed in WebAssembly, not JavaScript.
2021
I lead the development of Aunivers, one of the largest ed-tech platforms in Norway. Hundreds of thousands of students use it every month, from primary school to adult education.
2011
Nine years as a consultant, building web platforms for clients like KPMG, XL-BYGG, Norcem and Confex, and a parking system at Oslo Airport connected to Avinor. Order systems, course platforms, certification workflows, CMS and CRM integrations.
2007
Domains, DNS, email and hosting at one of the largest domain registrars in Norway. Part time while I studied, then full time. This is where I learned that the boring parts of the internet are the ones that matter most.
2005
Java, Python, algorithms and data structures, systems engineering, calculus, linear algebra, statistics and logic. I also did freelance web projects on the side.
2001
IRC scripts, Geocities pages and my first PHP sites, built as a teenager on a dial-up connection. I used a lot of <marquee> and <blink>, and I still think they were ahead of their time.
A selection. I did most of the consulting work together with the team at Netmaking.

Advisory role
Advisor on the overall web architecture, and on how it connects to the business systems, in a full rewrite of the Juridika application.
Industry infrastructure
Worked on the systems the Norwegian book trade depends on: registering new books, sending book data out to the industry, and the search that publishers, bookshops and libraries use every day.
Internal platform
Built the course system that KPMG’s lawyers and auditors use to keep their certification. They need a certain number of course hours in each period, and the system tracks sign-ups, hours and reporting in one place.
B2B commerce
Made a custom ordering system for XL-BYGG’s trade customers, so builders at around 110 stores can order what they need without calling back and forth.
Order system
Built the order system for Norcem, who deliver about 90 % of the cement used in Norway. If you see a cement truck, there is a good chance the order went through this system.

Ordering and operations
Built the valet parking system at Oslo Airport Gardermoen: online booking for customers and the tools the staff use every day. It uses flight data from Avinor, so the timing follows your flight.
Course sign-ups, management and CMS
Built the whole web solution for the largest training provider in Norway: course catalogue, sign-ups and admin, connected to their CRM and marketing tools.
Certification application · formerly Teknologisk Institutt
Built a certification application that follows the full process for several ISO standards, from the first application to audit and follow-up.
CMS with integrated PIM
Made the website, CMS, product information system and ordering for the largest professional community for process technology in the Norwegian food industry.
Do you need someone to lead a web team, sort out an architecture, or write a lot of solid code? Or do you just want to talk about WebAssembly, caching or DNS? Email is the best way to reach me.
Off duty I ride gravel, snowboard, and spend as much time outside as I can.
